Carpet Cleaning – Wet Or Dry?

Carpet Cleaning – Wet Or Dry?

The Carpet & Rug Institute recommends that you should clean your carpet – with a wet or a dry extraction method – on average every 18 months or so. Normally standard carpet maintenance is practiced by most people or organizations. This means regular vacuuming as well as on the spot cleaning as and when particular stains or spills occur.

There are some carpet cleaning methods used professionally. A complete vacuum application should be made prior to using any of these methods which makes it easier for the overall cleaning exercise.

Carpet Shampooing – Wet Clean. The carpet cleaning machine (either cylindrical foam or rotary shampoo) generates a lot of foam in the carpet, stirring the dirt and stains up into the foam. This is then left to dry, perhaps overnight, after which it is removed with a vacuum cleaner.

Carpet Absorbents – Dry Clean. A dry powder is sprinkled over the carpet and then spread into it with a machine, so that it penetrates. This powder contains detergent, solvent, an absorbent and very little water. For heavily soiled areas it is spread about by means of a spray, which is then rubbed in. Finally a complete and profound vacuuming is applied.

Steam Cleaning. This method is not only the most widely recommended by manufacturers, it is also the only one that lives up to the “deep cleaning” description as it is capable of extracting soil set deep into the carpet. A fine spray of hot water mixed with detergent is applied to the carpet and this moves and blends in the dirt with the solution, however deep it may be. A very powerful vacuum extracts the hot water and stores this in a tank. A portable system can be brought into the house, or alternatively a truck mounted system is used, with extra long hoses that allow the extraction to the holding tanks in the truck.

Manufactures recommend the steam cleaning option, but so long as it is conducted by a professional, not necessarily for doing it yourself. Additionally this is a practical solution for offices and commercial enterprises. For residential needs, where traffic and therefore potential soiling is much less, it is not necessarily the best option once you take into account the costs.

Regarding carpet shampooing and the dry clean method, both these methods are surface cleaners, not “deep cleaning” methods. This means that some of the dirt and the detergent will be left behind.

Imagine you are washing your hair. You finished applying the shampoo and then you proceed to rinse it out. In a carpet some of the shampoo will always remain behind. And the problem with this is that if it is not dried out completely and the water extracted out, the damp yarn will always attract and capture more dirt. This is why after a wet cleaning, circles with slight dirt rings appear a few days later. With a dry clean this will not happen (if instructions are followed properly).

Before you decide on the method you could use, and after exhausting the continuous vacuuming and preventive measures, check out local prices of a professional service or the hiring of the necessary equipment.…

Converting the Attic

Converting the Attic

The conversion of your attic or loft is a brilliant way of making more living space without the need to move house. You can of course build an extension or a conservatory but space in the garden may be at a premium so upwards may be the ready solution. The area you will have to convert will depend on what size your home is but as long as you have a space more than 7ft in height then you can start developing. Before anything starts though you must approach the local planning people to get confirmation that there are no restrictions on your anticipated plans.

Once you have the green light from the planners then things can start happening. Whether you have decided on extra bedroom(s) or an office the converting of this redundant space will prove fruitful to you by sending the value of your home up probably by more than the actual conversion will cost. This is ideal should you ever move in the distant future.

The conversion of the loft or attic whatever you might call it does not have to be small or cramped. Sometimes there is space for two rooms but usually it is just one but a good size. More and more people are making the most of their properties by capitalizing on this extra space previously taken up by unwanted items, junk and dust! Rather than two rooms if that were possible go for a large single room perhaps a bedroom with en suite.

There seems to be no point in being cramped up when there are numerous possibilities to extend upwards. The additional space will add value to the home and give you additional living space. The possibilities for using the attic space are limited only as far as your imagination and budget.

The conversion of the unused space needs careful thought and the services of a professional architect to help you with your thoughts and ideas is a sensible move. They will be fully aware of all the pluses and minuses that may be available or not with this extra space. Their experience and familiarity with the issues concerning the building codes such as safe exit strategies and adequate access from lower levels will also prove valuable.

With many attics and lofts there is a tiny window and ceilings that slant and the whole area can be dark and uninspiring however with a little forethought and change of windows plus perhaps a skylight it can make all the difference to the room.…

Do You Make These Mistakes With Clothes?

Do You Make These Mistakes With Clothes?

Wouldn’t it be nice if people walked around with pertinent information in full view, like a stamp on their forehead or something? Useful stuff that’s good to know, from “good cook” or “plays the piano” to “lied on his resume” or “has a psychotic ex-girlfriend.” Wouldn’t that save time and trouble?

Alas, we have no such system.

When we meet someone for the first time, we have to rely on how they look and act to determine how much we want to get to know them. If they dress appropriately, they’ll garner interest. If they ignore the dress code, they’ll most likely be ignored.

Which is a shame, really.

There are lots of bright, articulate, funny people walking around who package themselves inappropriately. From sloppy attire to occasion-inappropriate, they take their sparkling, dynamic selves out into the world in ho-hum, easy-to-overlook attire.

Are you one of them?

Do you routinely miss out on opportunities because of how you’re dressed? If you’ve failed to get a promotion, a leadership position, or even the attention of that cute guy on the fifth floor, perhaps it’s time to take a good look at how you’re dressing.

Here are the most common mistakes I see:

1. Wearing Clothes that Are Too Tight

Just because you can get it zipped doesn’t mean it fits. If it binds, rides up, or requires constant adjustment, it’s too small. Get a larger size.

2. Wearing Clothes that Are Too Loose

Trying to hide a pooching tummy? A bodacious bum? A generous bustline? Then hide THAT part, not your entire body. Learn the camouflage tricks that work for you and you’ll instantly look taller and trimmer.

3. Wearing the Wrong Size Bra

If I had a dime for every woman I’ve seen in the wrong bra, I’d be retired and sipping Mai Tais in Tahiti right now. If your straps dig in, ride up, or slip off your shoulder, you have the wrong size bra. Worse, it may be distorting your silhouette or even causing you back pain. Get the right size and feel like a whole new woman.

4. Being Oblivious to the Dress Code

Jeans at the ballet? Tennis shoes at a wedding? Crop tops at work? When you go someplace in attire that was clearly meant for someplace else, you come across as disrespectful, uneducated, and lazy. Is that really the impression you want to make?

5. Being Ignorant About Accessories

Luxury handbags, cute shoes, and chunky bracelets look spectacular when worn with appropriate attire. But when the mood of the accessories doesn’t match the mood of the ensemble – designer bag with workout gear, flip flops with winter clothes, a felt hat with a summer dress – all focus goes to the errant element. Accessories should complete the outfit, not sabotage it.

You don’t have to spend a lot to dress well, but you DO need to understand what’s right for your body and for various situations. If you take the time to package yourself correctly, you won’t need a stamp on your forehead that says, “I’m competent”, “I’m on the ball” or “I’m the girl you’ve been looking for.” Your appearance and deportment will say it all.…

GAF Asphalt Shingles Protecting Your Home For Life

They say there’s nothing that lasts forever, particularly when you’re talking about your home, but there are a few exceptions. GAF asphalt shingles carry a lifetime limited warranty that lasts as long as you own your home, making them the ideal material for your next home improvement project. But what makes this type of roofing so special?

GAF Asphalt Shingles Feature Superior Materials

GAF has been manufacturing asphalt shingles and other roofing materials since 1886. The company has been designing and creating unique roofing designs for over a century and standing behind their materials and craftsmanship for just as long. Homeowners can rely on the quality of the materials with every roof installation. Asphalt shingles are a popular choice for several reasons, including their affordability, an impressive range of colors and styles, easy installation and the relative ease with which they can be repaired. They’ve won numerous awards for the superior quality of their materials and craftsmanship.

Reliable Expertise

GAF manufactures its products in several North American locations in order to serve homeowners more efficiently and reduce shipping and storage costs, a savings that is passed on to the consumer. They offer an intensive training program for installers across North America and have trained over 125,000 roofing industry professionals on how to properly install and maintain the company’s asphalt shingles. When the time comes to have a new roof installed on your home, look for the seal that says “GAF Certified Weather Stopper Roofing Contractor.” It’s a sure sign of a contractor that uses factory trained installation experts. You can also go directly to their website and type in your contractor’s phone number; the website should confirm his status as a certified installer.

What A Lifetime Limited Warranty Really Means

Some companies will offer you a ten year or twenty year warranty on your roofing, but the GAF lifetime warranty covers your roof for life and is transferrable during the first 20 yrs when installed by a certified installer. It’s a warranty that’s seldom matched and one that Lions Roofing is proud to install on homes in Simcoe County and the surrounding area. During the first fifty years after installation, the warranty isn’t even pro-rated; that means if you need the roof repaired or replaced when it is fourty eight years old, you won’t have to pay a dime and the warranty will pay for complete replacement at the full market value you paid rather than at a reduced rate.

The lifetime warranty requires that at least three different GAF elements are used with the company’s premium asphalt shingles. This is easy to do because they carry a complete line of materials for roofing, including Deck Armor decking protection, a specialized leak barrier that’s designed to keep out moisture during even the worst weather, professionally designed starter shingle strips that discourage blow-off, exhaust vents that keep attic temperatures and moisture levels in line all year round, and beautiful ridge cap shingles that protect your home from leaks along ridges and peaks.

GAF asphalt shingles come in a wide range of styles, colors and textures to suit any home. Combined with the limited lifetime warranty, the superior quality and beautiful styles available, there’s no question that they are an excellent choice for your family home.…

Carpet Cleaning for Commercial Properties

Carpet Cleaning for Commercial Properties

Carpet is commonly found in many office buildings and other commercial properties. Keeping it clean and well maintained is important to protect your investment. Professional carpet cleaning allows commercial property owners to maintain the appearance and extend the life of their carpet. Proper cleaning will also improve the indoor air quality of your building.

Many commercial properties include carpeting in some area of the building. Usually, these carpets feature a low pile and are constructed from commercial grade materials that are designed to handle high foot traffic and large amounts of dirt accumulation. Wall to wall carpeting is found in many buildings and creates a comfortable, warm atmosphere for your employees and visitors. Routine cleaning and proper care of your carpet is essential to preserving the appearance and extending the life of your carpet. Professional carpet cleaning services also allow you to maintain a healthy indoor environment within your facility.

Preserve the Appearance of Your Carpet: There are many reasons for installing carpet in a commercial property. It adds color and warmth to the area, lessens the incidences of slips and falls, and reduces noise. When a customer enters your commercial property, the last thing they want to see is dirty, stained carpet. This type of neglect can negatively impact the overall impression a client has of your company. Routine cleaning and proper maintenance insures that your facility looks neat and welcoming to all who enter.

Vacuuming is the single most effective method to keep carpets clean. A routine cleaning schedule can eliminate more than 80% of all dry soil by weight. Periodic deep extraction cleaning and spot removal should occur as well. It is much better and more cost effective to provide routine maintenance to your carpets than it is to restore ones that have been damaged by neglect.

Extend the Life of Your Investment: Carpeting can be a big expense. Preventative maintenance is essential for long-term performance and longevity. High traffic areas must be given considerable attention to ensure that the integrity of the carpeting remains intact and permanent damage is not done. A professional cleaning company will vacuum daily, apply spot treatment, and periodically, deep clean to protect your investment and keep it looking good for years to come. Be sure that your cleaning company uses equipment that is certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). These products are proven to clean properly and protect a facility’s carpet investment.

Maintain a Healthy Indoor Environment: Dust, dirt, and dander that circulates through your building gets trapped in your carpet. Over time, these contaminates build up in the fibers of your carpet. Routine vacuuming and carpet cleaning removes this type of pollution from your facility and keeps it out of your air. A cleaner carpet means cleaner air and fewer allergens to aggravate the occupants of your building.

There are some carpet cleaners that can negatively impact the air quality of your facility. Avoiding products with high volatile organic compounds (VOC) is essential for maintaining a safe air quality in your building. Choose a commercial cleaning company who offers green cleaning solutions that will thoroughly clean and sanitize your facility without harming the health of your employees or clients.

Don’t leave your carpet care to just anyone. Locate a commercial cleaning company in your area who has the equipment and skills needed to clean and maintain your carpet correctly.…
